The Hongkong Prize 2023 Finalists and Runner-Ups

hongkong prize is one of the world’s top writing contests, offering cash prizes and the chance to showcase your work at an awards ceremony. This competition is open to writers from around the world, and winning it can help you establish a strong portfolio and gain international exposure. However, it’s important to read all the rules and regulations carefully before entering. This will ensure that your submission is judged fairly and that you don’t violate any guidelines.

The prize honors unsung heroes in the community whose contributions go beyond financial support. The finalists include activists who fight for freedom and democracy, and community service organizations that provide assistance to those in need. The prize also highlights their efforts to promote a greener and more sustainable lifestyle.

BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023 has been awarded to six scientists from different fields including artificial intelligence, robotics, life and health, new materials and energy, and advanced manufacturing. Laureates are from universities in Hong Kong, China, and other countries. They are working to build Hong Kong into a leading global scientific research hub.

In the arts, Sameen Agha from Pakistan took home the Grand Prize for her sculpture A Home is a Terrible Place to Love. It depicts a house in disrepair, with its wooden door and red window panes showing signs of wear. Agha carved the piece out of marble and finished it with an acrylic paint palette. Her work is inspired by her experience living in a war-torn country.

Aside from the main prize, the runner-ups received HK$30,000 each. The first runner-up was reporter Xi Tianqi, who won the news category for her in-depth series of articles on cross-border organ transplantation and fertility perseveration. The second runner-up was copy editor James Cook, who wrote an innovative story about Hong Kong’s efforts to speed up adoption of electric vehicles.

The judging panel is comprised of experts from academia, industry and government, with the winner selected by an independent Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Committee. The organisers of the award are hoping that it will encourage more people to become interested in science and spark interest in the development of Hong Kong as an international hub for science. Those interested in applying for the prize can visit the website to find out more information.
