What is Roullete?
Roullete (or Roulette, French for little wheel) is a casino game that involves spinning a numbered wheel and correctly guessing which number the ball will land on. Players place bets by laying down chips on a betting mat, with the precise placement of each chip indicating the bet being placed. Bets can be made on single numbers, various groupings of numbers, the color red or black, and whether a number is odd or even. A player wins by correctly predicting the number or colors in which they sit.
The earliest accounts of the game date back to the 17th century, with the 17th-century French mathematician Blaise Pascal being credited with its invention. However, it was adapted and improved upon by many other people over the centuries until it reached its current form.
Originally, the game was played with a French style wheel and table. When the game reached the United States, an American-style wheel and table was adopted. Because of rampant cheating, a mechanism was added to prevent devices from being hidden in the wheel and table, and the betting layout was simplified.
In modern games of roulette, the roulette wheel consists of a flat disk with a convex surface and thirty-six compartments, painted alternately red and black and numbered one through 36 in a nonconsecutive pattern. The numbers are divided further into three sections of twelve, six and zero. On European-style wheels, a green compartment is marked 0 and on American tables there are two additional green divisions marked 00.
Prior to each spin, the dealer clears the table of losing bets and then pays out winning bets. Once this is complete, the player may again place their bets. Players can place bets on groups of numbers, called “outside bets”, with the odds of hitting these bets much lower than those of hitting a specific individual number.
The game of roulette offers glamour, mystery and excitement to casino-goers, but it is important to remember that the odds are always against the player and a strategy can only increase the chances of success by making better bets and staying within budget. To this end, it is important to set a budget before playing and never dip into your winnings for future bets.
