The Sydney Taylor Manuscript Prize
The sdy prize is an annual event that honors a single work of literature in the field of Jewish fiction. The award was established in 1985 by Sydney Taylor’s husband Ralph Taylor to encourage aspiring authors and has been awarded many times since.
The top prize is a $2,000 cash award. The competition is open to unpublished manuscripts of fiction in English that feature a unique conceit and reveal some aspect of Jewish culture for readers aged 8-13.
As of this writing, the competition is in its fourth year and is being held in conjunction with the American Jewish Committee’s AJL. The winning entry will be published in the AJL magazine.
This is a great way to get your name out there in the Jewish publishing community. The winners will receive the coveted Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award seal and the prestige that goes with it.
Structural Dynamics would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our very own Editor-in-Chief Majed Chergui on winning the aforementioned sdy prize. He was also honored for his achievements in a number of other fields, most recently in chemistry where he is recognized as the author of the first solid state NMR spectroscopic study of disordered deoxycholic acid inclusion compounds.
In addition to a cash prize, the sdy prize features a special edition of the journal. This edition is limited to 100 copies and will be signed by the editors.
The sdy prize is the most impressive of all the competition’s awards. It is the highest accolade that a single work can be given. The sdy trophy is an annual award that recognizes a single work of literature in the Jewish fiction genre that is selected from among the submissions to the competition.
