What is a Sidney Prize?
A sidney prize is a way to recognise people who have made a difference to humanity. These prizes can be awarded for a variety of reasons, including their work with communities or even their contributions to science and the arts. These prizes are a great way to reward people for their hard work and dedication, and it is also a good way to encourage other people to do the same thing.
There are a number of different sidney prizes available, so it is important to research the different options before choosing one. These awards are often given to writers who have done something amazing, but there are a number of other categories that can be awarded as well. There are also a number of different prizes that can be awarded to scientists, and these can be worth quite a bit of money.
SS Sidney Thomas Prize
This award is named for Professor Sidney Thomas who taught art history at Syracuse University from 1961-1985. He was deeply committed to humanistic scholarship, and edited two benchmark publications in the field of art history. The Sidney Thomas Prize is open to undergraduate students with a major in art history or related disciplines.
SS Sidney DeVere Brown Prize and Mikiso Hane Prize
The Society offers two scholarships and awards named in honor of prominent figures who were members of Phi Beta Kappa. The SS Sidney Hook Memorial Award recognizes an outstanding student who exemplifies the ideals of liberal education. This award is designed to support the scholar’s scholarly work and research.
In addition to its Nobel-Prize winners and Elizabethan brickwork, Oxford has a wealth of lesser-known treasures. From its medieval cellars to its exquisite rococo Hall, it is an undiscovered gem that punches far above its weight and has much to offer the traveller.
While the SS Sidney Taylor Manuscript Award does not guarantee publication, it has been an incentive for writers with varying degrees of experience to submit manuscripts. Published books that win the award prior to their publication can carry a Sydney Taylor Manuscript Award seal on their cover.
The Overland Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize is open to undergraduate students worldwide who have an interest in writing and the world around them. This year, first place receives $5,000 in prize money and two runners-up will be published in Overland magazine. Submissions are due by the end of the month and should be submitted through the online form. Applicants will be required to answer some questions about their submissions and their background. If the submission takes up a marginalised or vulnerable identity, we ask that you please identify yourself. This will help our judges to ensure that your work is not misinterpreted. The judges are looking for fiction that is both original and compelling, but not necessarily didactic. It must be clear and accessible, and it must meet our standard of literary excellence. Those who do not meet these requirements may be disqualified.
